Frequently Asked Questions

Who we are and why we do this?

What our educational philosophy derives from Laura’s early years as a homeschooling parent back in 1991. After studying the pilgrims during Alexandra’s first year as a homeschool student at age 4, they traveled to Massachusetts to see where they landed. The experience of seeing history alive with hands-on experiences changed her philosophy about education. Our homeschool journey continued for all three children from “birth” to high school graduation.

How our programs are designed

Our programs are designed to provide immersive learning that is engaging, fun and inspiring for the whole family. We use real books, primary sources and provide authentic learning opportunities that focus on real experiences for all ages. All of our programs have suggestions for adaptation to younger and older children so families can learn together. We use narration and discussion questions to foster conversation while learning. We use a variety of educational styles to best meet the needs of each unique child’s interests and learning style.

Who can participate in our programs?

Our programs are designed for all families who are interested in immersive educational experiences. All members of families are welcome to join us and we love grandparents!

Can I drop my child off at the program?

No, our programs are for families to experience learning adventures together. We do not offer any drop off options at any of our programs.

Can someone participate who is not homeschooled?

Yes, our programs are open to anyone who is interested in learning as a family and considering homeschooling.

Are these programs faith based?

Our world view is from a Biblical perspective, so our programs are from that frame, however there may be some included neutral materials or experiences that are focused on the subject matter of our study.

How can educational programs be covered by my state scholarship programs?

Each state has different guidelines and rules regarding field trips, curriculum purchases, and in-state and out of state educational programs. We are approved as a vendor in the states listed and have our programs pre-approved, audited and vetted by each state agency. Please refer to your state’s handbook to understand how your state policies apply to educational programs. Please see below for state specific scholarship questions.

Florida’s Step Up for Students PEP and UA Scholarship Programs

Can Step Up funds be used for out of state educational programs?

Out of state programs are allowed but they do have specific requirements and not all expenses are covered. Pre-approval from SUFS is required. We are an approved service provider for SUFS PEP and UA scholarship programs and follow all Step Up for Students guidelines and policies as well as Florida State law. Our programs are pre-approved as per the purchasing guidelines in the handbook. Please refer to the handbook and look under, “out of state activities and field trips”. For the PEP scholarship, please see page 22 and 23 in the 2026 handbook. For the UA scholarship, please see page 26 in the 2026 handbook. https://www.stepupforstudents.org/handbooks/

How can the scholarship be used for international travel?

SUFS scholarship funds cannot be used for international travel. Programs we offer that have an international component have a separate fee to cover the lodging, food, and tour costs for the international portion of the program. The scholarship funds are used to cover tuition and curriculum costs in the state.

Can I use my students’ scholarship funds for overnight trips?

Scholarship funds cannot be used for lodging. Any overnight programs that include lodging have the lodging costs wrapped into the parent costs. No scholarship funds are used for lodging. Please see the registration agreements required to participate.
